The Colorado Division of Gaming has announced the sports wagering figures for the month of June, including total gross gaming revenue (GGR) and handle generated during the period. GGR for the month was reported at $28.2m, more than tripling the $9.2m reported for June 2023.
Total handle in the state also increased from the comparable period, rising 12.8% for a reported total of $350.4m, but the figure also represented a 21.7% decrease from May 2024. This could mainly be due to the fact many American sports are in a period of inactivity with new seasons not beginning until the Fall.
American football only generated just under $1.5m in handle during the month of June, less than 0.5% of the total handle reported for the month. Ice hockey only represented 2.3% of the handle, having been reported to generate $8.1m in wagering during June. The Stanley Cup Finals stretched into much of June, most likely representing the majority of bets placed on the sport.
The main contributors for the June 2024 handle were baseball and basketball. Baseball especially saw most of the action as the MLB season is currently only halfway completed, generating $104.5m in handle and representing nearly 30% of the reported total on its own.
Basketball was reported to see just over $59.2m in handle, while soccer generated $27.7m and tennis was reported at $26.5m. The three sports combined to represent just over 30% of the total handle, barely surpassing baseball on its own during the month of June.
Retail gambling generated just $111.2k on GGR for the month, while online betting accounted for $28.1m of GGR. Fiscal year wagers to date in Colorado was reported to be $6.01bn, a 16.2% increase from what the state had reported during the comparable period.
