The move potentially reopens the development opportunity at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, where Wynn had previously earmarked a site.
Wynn Resorts, the parent company of Wynn Macau, has confirmed it will no longer pursue a casino licence in the US state of New York.
In an official statement, the operator said the decision came after reflecting on “years of persistent opposition,” signalling an end to its ambitions in the competitive New York market.
The move potentially reopens the development opportunity at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, where Wynn had previously earmarked a site. A new developer could now seek to capitalise on the prime real estate.
Wynn’s withdrawal follows a similar decision by Las Vegas Sands, which recently abandoned its proposed project at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island.
Significant delays in the licensing process have cooled enthusiasm among some bidders, yet several major players remain committed. MGM Resorts and Genting have reiterated their interest, continuing to back their respective proposals.
Meanwhile, other American operators are actively competing for one of the five coveted licences, with a variety of proposed venues—each designed to appeal not only to the public but also to political stakeholders tasked with approving the plans.
