The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) has announced that several influencers have stopped promoting illegal gambling operators after coming under targeted regulatory supervision.

The development is part of Spelinspektionen’s broader efforts to combat unlicensed gambling marketing, particularly content aimed at Swedish audiences through digital platforms.

According to the regulator, the influencers had been promoting unlicensed operators via streaming services such as Twitch — a platform widely used by younger demographics. Under Sweden’s Gambling Act (2018:1138), it is illegal to market gambling services to Swedish consumers unless the operator is licensed.

Following a review, Spelinspektionen concluded that the content in question breached national gambling laws. The individuals involved have since ceased their promotional activity after being contacted by the Authority.

While no fines or formal penalties have been issued at this stage, the Authority has confirmed that enforcement efforts will continue.

Spelinspektionen stated that it would maintain close oversight of influencers and digital content creators to ensure compliance and to protect vulnerable groups from unauthorised gambling exposure.

The move aligns with a growing international trend toward tighter regulation of influencer marketing in the gambling space, as authorities seek to limit the impact of unlicensed operators on consumers — particularly younger audiences.
