The publication, reported by one media agency in Nigeria and attributed to a known individual suggests the existence of a regulatory framework for remote gaming that simply does not exist. The LSLGA emphasized the importance of clarifying this misinformation, stating, “Its content reeks of misinformation and has the potential to mislead the international community regarding the true state of gaming regulation in Nigeria.”
The LSLGA clarified that discussions about regulatory licensing for online gaming fall exclusively under the purview of state regulators, as specified by the Nigerian Constitution and reinforced by the Supreme Court ruling in Suit No. SC/1/2008.

According to the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), The now-defunct National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), which was previously tasked with oversight of gaming in Nigeria, is no longer in a position to issue or manage such licenses. “Operators who may have obtained such purported ‘remote gaming licenses’ should understand that they are in possession of mere paper without any legal backing,” the LSLGA noted.
The regulatory authority urges these entities to regularize their operations with the appropriate state authorities. They warned that non-compliance may lead to enforcement actions, including potential closures of operations considered illegal under current laws. The LSLGA stated, “Failure to do so will result in enforcement actions, including the shutdown of non-compliant operations.”
