The 22.4% rise in GGR from $203.3 million in May last year indicates a stronger win rate for operators during the month.

New York has set a new benchmark for online sports betting gross gaming revenue (GGR), with May 2025 figures reaching an all-time monthly high of $248.9 million, according to data released by the New York State Gaming Commission.

The figure represents a 0.8% increase on the previous record of $247 million, set in January 2025. However, despite the record revenue, May’s betting handle fell to $2.21 billion — down 10.8% from January’s $2.48 billion. On a year-on-year basis, though, handle was up 12.1% compared to the $1.97 billion wagered in May 2024.

Significantly, May also saw a major boost in tax revenue allocated to education. A total of $126.9 million was channelled into New York’s education fund — up 22.4% year-on-year.

Since the launch of mobile sports betting in January 2022, the state has now generated more than $6.5 billion in GGR and over $3.2 billion in education-directed revenue.

Platform providers also benefited from a notable uptick, with a combined $122 million share in May — nearly $28 million more than the $94.4 million recorded in April.

This new record follows April’s total GGR of $192.7 million, which itself had marked a 4.8% increase year-on-year, fuelled by a 9.6% rise in handle. FanDuel and DraftKings continued to lead the market, contributing the largest shares of both GGR and betting handle.
