As I write this note, I’m filled with gratitude for the warm reception our first two issues of iGaming AFRIKA Magazine have received from the wider iGaming community that is focused on Africa. With the goal of advancing the content landscape in igaming media, we now proudly present issue 3 of iGaming AFRIKA Magazine, following our inaugural release in January 2024.
With the rapid growth of the gambling industry in Africa, it is essential to assess the impacts of gambling on players. Recognizing that gambling can be a harmful activity for some users allows us—industry stakeholders—to implement effective measures that empower individuals to self-exclude when they recognize negative consequences in their gambling behavior.
Several strategies should be adopted to facilitate effective self-exclusion. First, operators must cease sending promotional messages and offers to players demonstrating patterns of problematic gambling based on their history. Additionally, individuals who seek assistance for gambling issues should be barred from signing up on any gambling platforms.

Moreover, it is crucial for industry regulators and operators to establish responsible gaming departments or helplines dedicated to supporting self-exclusion efforts and ensuring compliance with established standards across various countries on the continent.
Through my conversations with affected players grappling with gambling addiction, I have come to believe that we are not doing enough to support their self-exclusion initiatives. Therefore, I urge all stakeholders in the industry to lead the way in advocating for self-exclusion measures, particularly among operators and regulators throughout Africa.
I dream of a future where gamblers can easily request the deletion of their betting accounts and personal information from an operator’s systems with a simple click, across all platforms where they are registered. May self-exclusion prevail!
