A group of students from Kampala International School Uganda contacted the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board of Uganda support with their research on Ugandans’ access to gambling activities. The students had gathered data from 150 respondents for their study.
Key findings from the research revealed that a significant number of youth admitted to participating in gambling activities. Specifically, 70.3% of the respondents reported engaging in various forms of gambling, including sports betting, online casinos, lotteries, and scratch cards.
The research data reveals a worrying pattern of chasing losses which can lead to addiction. 40.3% of respondents admitted to continuing to bet after losing, in an attempt to recover their money. Only 20.7% said they stop betting after a loss.

The research found an estimated average loss of UGX 115,332, nearly triple the average amount they believed they had gained.
According to these students, 150 questionnaires were sent out and analyzed. This survey was part of their IGCSE Global Perspectives Team Project. All surveys responses were completely anonymous, ensuring participant confidentiality.
