The Arizona Department of Gaming has published its sports betting results for May. During the month, the state reported accepting $568.5m in wagers, which reflected close to 25.9% increase in activity when compared to results from one year ago.
In a breakdown of May’s total handle, mobile sports betting contributed $563.2m to the state’s total, while retail locations brought in more than $4m. Wagers placed with limited event wagering operators reached almost $1.1m during the month.
Players placed the majority of the state’s mobile bets with two operators during the month of May. Both DraftKings and FanDuel took in more than $280m in wagers.
FanDuel retained its title as the top operator for the month, with mobile wagers during May reaching $192.7m. DraftKings came in as a close second. Players placed more than $188.3m in online bets with DraftKings.
Other heavy hitters included BetMGM and Caesars, with online sports wagers that reached $63.5m and $35.2m respectively.
Arizona sports bettors walked away with almost $590.4m in winnings during the month of May. The state’s operators ended the month with close to $63m in total revenue.
During May, the state collected close to $4.3m in privilege fees.
In other state news, the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has said that it will start accepting event wagering license applications next month.
The regulator announced that it will take applications “for no less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Tribes and no less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Sports Franchises.”
Arizona has welcomed legal sports betting outside of Tribal gaming for nearly three years. The state first legalized sports wagers in April 2021 after Governor Doug Ducey signed the bill into law. The state debuted its sports wagering market in September 2021.
