Game suppliers in Denmark will now be required to file their own regulatory compliance paperwork” under Spillemyndigheden’s newly introduced certification policies.
The updated requirements for betting and iGaming providers were signed into law at the start of the year and will officially take effect on 1 July, allowing a six-month transition period for businesses to adapt.
Previously, gambling licence holders handled compliance documentation on behalf of their game suppliers. However, under the new system, both parties must now file separate reports, ensuring greater transparency in the market.
According to Spillemyndigheden, the revised framework aims to provide “more clarity for all relevant shareholders,”reinforcing the independent responsibilities of both operators and suppliers within the Danish gambling sector.
Notably, companies that both develop games and operate B2C services will be subject to dual compliance obligations, requiring them to obtain two separate certifications.
To clarify the specifics of the new regulatory framework, Spillemyndigheden has published Newsletter 58, detailing the seven different certification categories, their applicable business types, and their respective renewal requirements.
Additionally, we remind readers that Denmark recently overhauled its land-based bingo regulations, with Spillemyndigheden opening up the license application process for both local and international operators in late 2024.
