12/12/2024 Kampala, Uganda: The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has reinforced its partnership with the Uganda Police Force in a significant move to combat the rising tide of illegal gaming in Uganda.

The two entities convened at the prestigious Kabira Country Club in Kampala, where they laid out collaborative strategies aimed at safeguarding communities and promoting responsible gaming practices.

The meeting, spearheaded by NLGRB’s Chief Executive Officer, Denis Mudene, witnessed the participation of notable police figures, including CP Ecega Richard and ACP Kituuma Rusoke, along with other key officers from the Uganda Police Force. Their unified presence signals an acute awareness of the challenges posed by illegal gaming and a commitment to addressing these issues head-on.

Central to the discussions was the shared goal of fostering safe gaming environments within Ugandan communities. The NLGRB and the Uganda Police Force delved into various initiatives designed to tackle illegal gaming effectively. Recognizing the detrimental effects of unregulated gambling, the meeting emphasized the importance of creating comprehensive awareness campaigns aimed not just at the public, but particularly targeting vulnerable groups, including minors.

Among the key outcomes of this partnership is a renewed commitment from both the NLGRB and the Uganda Police to collaborate closely in eliminating illegal gaming operations, raising public awareness, and enhancing protective measures for minors against gaming-related risks.

The initiative received positive feedback from community members, including a notable comment from Tumuhimbise Franco, who expressed gratitude for the timely collaboration. He stated, “I am grateful for this timely stakeholder partnership to address illegal gaming. A community that is safe from the adverse effects of gaming is a strong pillar for Uganda’s economic development,” encapsulating the sentiments of many who stand to benefit from these protective measures.

This collaborative effort underscores the critical importance of engaging multiple stakeholders in safeguarding the welfare of citizens and fostering a more responsible gaming culture in Uganda. The message is clear: a united front against illegal gaming not only protects the most vulnerable but also promotes a thriving, responsible gaming industry that can contribute positively to Uganda’s growth and prosperity.
